Frequently Asked Questions

What are the system requirements?

NetUtil requires macOS 15.5 (Sequoia) or later. It runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Why isn’t NetUtil on the Mac App Store?

NetUtil uses system tools like ping, traceroute, and netstat that require running processes outside the App Store sandbox. This is the same reason Apple’s original Network Utility couldn’t be sandboxed.

Is my data safe?

Yes. All network queries run locally on your Mac. NetUtil doesn’t send any data to external servers and doesn’t include analytics or tracking.

Why is it free?

We believe everyone should have access to basic network diagnostic tools. NetUtil has no ads, no in-app purchases, and no strings attached.

How do I get updates?

NetUtil includes Sparkle for automatic updates. You’ll be notified when new versions are available, and can update with one click.

Known Issues

Port Scan requires manual permission

On first use, macOS may prompt you to allow NetUtil to accept incoming network connections. This is required for port scanning functionality.

Some tools require elevated privileges

Certain network operations may require administrator privileges. If you see permission errors, try running the tool again and entering your password when prompted.
