Privacy Policy
Privacy policy for NetUtil
Last updated: January 2026
Overview
NetUtil is designed with privacy as a core principle. We don’t collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data.
Data Collection
We don’t collect any data. NetUtil runs entirely on your Mac. All network queries (ping, traceroute, DNS lookups, port scans, etc.) are executed locally and the results stay on your device.
Network Requests
NetUtil makes network requests only when you explicitly use its diagnostic tools:
- Ping sends ICMP packets to hosts you specify
- Traceroute sends packets with incrementing TTL values
- DNS Lookup queries DNS servers for records
- Port Scan attempts TCP connections to hosts you specify
- Whois queries whois servers for domain information
- Netstat reads local system information only
These are the same operations performed by the command-line tools built into macOS. No data is sent to our servers or any third party.
Analytics and Tracking
NetUtil does not include any analytics, telemetry, or tracking code. We have no idea how you use the app, which features you prefer, or how often you open it.
Updates
NetUtil uses Sparkle for update checking. When checking for updates, your Mac contacts our server to download the appcast file. This request includes your IP address (as all web requests do), but we don’t log or store this information.
Third-Party Services
NetUtil does not integrate with any third-party services that would have access to your data.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
